Photoshop filters – radial blur

I’ve been playing with photoshop quite a lot lately because I’ve been scanning a lot of photos which my Dad took in the 1950s to 1970’s and cleaning them up and in some cases adding some colour. During my experiments and after watching some videos as part of the learning process, I’ve been trying out some filters and I made some changes I like to this picture of my Daughter which I originally took last year. Although I don’t normally […]

Favourite pictures – Emma the photographer

As I looked through my google plus feed this morning I saw a ‘your year in photos’ post automatically added by google to my feed. When I looked through the sample of pictures in this the one above stood out as one of my better pictures of Emma, so I thought I’d make it the subject of a favourite picture post. This was taken in Bressingham gardens in Norfolk when we were on holiday there earlier in the year. Emma […]

Centre Parcs – Woburn forest

This is a family holiday post with a few pictures from the new Woburn Forest Centre Parcs site where we went for a short break. I’ll update the post with more pictures as I get them processed. All these pictures were taken with my Takumar prime lens set and processed in Lightroom using my normal post-processing workflow from the raw files. The full size pictures are available to view here.

Sutton Hoo Pictures

In a similar post to yesterday’s post which published the remaining pictures I took at Kentwell Hall, this post is a collection of the pictures I took during our holiday visit the the National Trust property at Sutton Hoo in Suffolk. It is mostly a family holiday post, but anyone who is considering a visit may find it interesting. All of these pictures were taken with my takumar prime lens kit which I took on the holiday. View the pictures […]

Kentwell Hall Tudor Day pictures

As I have mentioned in a previous post we went to a Kentwell Hall Tudor day at Kentwell Hall in Suffolk in April this year and I’ve posted several pictures which I took that day, but I still have a large number which I wanted to publish so I’ve collected them all here in a large gallery. I can thoroughly recommend the Kentwell Hall tudor day if you are in the area or would consider travelling. It was the best […]

Framlingham town and castle pictures

While we were on holiday in Suffolk last month we visited the town of Framlingham to look round the castle and town. These are the pictures I took whilst we were there and I’ve posted them mainly as a family record of our trip. We were very lucky with the weather the whole week and this day was no different, with unbroken sun for the most part once the Sun broke out. I used the Prime lens kit which I’d […]

I wish I had my macro lens today

We have been away for a couple of days visiting my Sister in Norwich. I assumed that since she lives in a city the last thing I would need would be my macro kit so I only took my standard ‘takumar kit‘ with me. Unfortunately it turned out I was wrong as we went for a walk into the woods by her house and discovered there is a nature park next to the woods and a whole collection of small […]

Favourite Pictures – A bowl of flowers

This picture was taken in Tranmer House at Sutton Hoo in Suffolk during our recent holiday. It ls a very simple picture but it’s my¬†favourite of all the pictures I took during that day because of the light caught on the flower’s petals and the out of focus area in the background. It’s quite normal to isolate a subject by throwing the background out of focus, but I normally aim for a completely blurred background. I think this effect – […]

A walk round foggy bottom gardens

This post is about the Foggy Bottom gardens which are at Bressingham gardens near Diss in Norfolk. We went the Bressingham to see the Steam Engines and discovered the Foggy Bottom gardens towards the end of the day when James and Emma were tired enough to allow us to walk around them. View the pictures using the gallery below or see the full size versions by following this link. The gardens were apparently designed by Adrian Bloom, and have grown […]

Dunwich Heath on the Suffolk Coast

This post is to highlight the best of the pictures I took during our recent visit to the National Trust site at Dunwich on the Suffolk coast. Some of these pictures have already been published in my Favourite Pictures series, but I wanted to record our trip for the rest of the family to see and include the ‘best of the rest’ of the pictures. These pictures were taken with some of the manual prime lenses I took on holiday […]

Favourite Pictures – Framlingham

This picture was taken in the Suffolk village of Framlingham during our recent holiday. We went for a visit to the castle at Framlingham but Jan found a walk round the town which took in all the interesting and historic properties and views and so I took pictures as we walked around. When we got to this lane I tried lowering the camera to use the brickwork pavement as a series of lines leading the eye into the picture and […]

Favourite Pictures – Toy boats

These toy boats were sitting on the window sill in the apothecary’s room at Kentwell Hall when we visited on a Tudor Day reconstruction a couple of weeks ago. I’m not sure it they are an accurate representation of tudor England toys or just something made to look like models, but they caught my eye and so I took this picture. Favourite Pictures – The forge at Kentwell

This is another picture from out visit to Kentwell Hall in Suffolk – this time a tudor recreation of a blacksmiths forge. We had just come out of the restaurant at lunchtime and saw a group of people in a bunch around a small building just outside the stables. When we went to have a look we found that it was the blacksmiths forge and someone was being fitted out with a set of chainmail. Emma was immediately interested and […]

Sony Nex 6 panorama function

When we were on holiday I wanted to try out the Sony nex 6 panorama setting, which will create a panoramic picture in real time as you hold the shutter button and sweep the camera. The image above is one I took on the beach at Dunwich in Suffolk and I think it actually works quite well. There is no obvious stitching errors that I can see and considering this was produced within about 3 seconds of me releasing the […]

Favourite Pictures – Family scene

This is another picture from my Soligor C/D 28mm lens whilst we were on the pebble beach at Dunwich on the Suffolk coast. I had been concentrating on taking some pictures with the fence and post as a foreground interest object and noticed that my family had nicely arranged themselves into an interesting scene with James and Emma playing and Janice watching them (probably trying to get warm!). Sony Nex 6 Soligor 28mm C/D iso 100 1/2500 f/4 or f/5.6
