Ricoh Caplio R1v digital compact camera

I’ve had a soft spot for the Ricoh Caplio range of digital cameras for a while now, so I was really pleased to pick up a Ricoh Caplio R1v as part of a bundle purchase of cameras recently. It is a small, fully automatic, 5Mp ┬ásnap shot camera dating from about 2005 with several interesting features which are typical of the Ricoh range. Ricoh Caplio R1v Images My Ricoh Caplio R1v Camera As I said above I managed to pick […]

Ricoh RDC-7 Image capturing device

The Ricoh RDC-7 is a very early, 3 Megapixel digital camera produced by Ricoh with quite an interesting and novel design. Ricoh RDC-7 Images My Ricoh RDC-7 Camera My Ricoh RDC-7 was bought as a complete kit with two batteries, a soft case, the original CDs with software, the charger & external power supply and a 64M smart media card. The seller sold it a spares or repair because when he tested it the exposure seemed to be over exposed. […]

Singlex TLS strip down and repair – part 2

This is the second part of my attempt to repair a Ricoh Singlex TLS 35mm camera which was kindly donated to my collection by David, a reader of my blog. These pictures can also be viewed in full size here. Whilst I’m still trying to work out what the problem with the shutter unit is I’ve cleaned up the old crumbly light seal from the various points it was fitted on the body and lens mount unit and lubricated the […]

My top camera finds of 2015

The start of a new year always leads us to thinking about the year just past, and as a camera collector I automatically think in terms of the best cameras I’ve acquired over the last 12 months. Therefore I decided to write a post looking back at what I consider to be my top finds of last year. Bronica ETRsi I’ve wanted a medium format camera for a long time and in fact purchased a Pentacon Six which I hoped […]

Ricoh GXR A12 Mount first impressions

I posted a while ago about discovering new lens units for my Ricoh GXR camera from a site in China. Well, I found that the same supplier also had the Leica mount sensor unit for a very good price and so I decided to get that as well. This is different from the other units I’ve bought because it is a sensor only unit fitted with a Leica bayonet M mount. That seems to go against the philosophy of the […]

Ricoh KR 10 super 35mm slr camera

This is my pictorial review of the Ricoh KR 10 Super, a 35mm film camera which was manufactured for Ricoh in Japan in the early 1980’s. In common with all Ricoh’s bayonet mount 35mm cameras, it has the Pentax K mount fitted which allowed a wide range of commonly available lenses to be fitted to it. My example is fitted with a Rikenon 50mm f/2.0 lens which I believe is the original prime lens supplied with the camera. It’s a […]

Ricoh KR-10M 35mm slr camera

This is another post in my series about my vintage camera collection. The camera in question here is the Ricoh KR-10M, which is a manual focus 35mm camera made in about 1990. It is fitted with a Pentax K mount lens and has aperture priority auto exposure along with fully manual mode. My example has a Rikenon 35-70mm f/3.4-f/4.5 zoom lens fitted. Ricoh KR-10M Images Ricoh have quite a pedigree when it comes to camera manufacture, but were quite a […]

The Coach

Today my son went on his first school residential visit. He is away for 4 days and we went to his school to see him off at lunchtime. I took along my Ricoh GXR with an S10 sensor unit and took a few photos. Although they are all essentially snapshots, I particularly liked this one when I first saw it and thought it would make a reasonable post to record the day. This is post processed in Lightroom 5 with […]

Ricoh GXR S10 Lens Unit

I’ve owned my Ricoh GXR Camera for a couple of weeks now and discovered a couple of days ago that SRS Microsystems are also selling parts of this system off cheap, and as a result I purchased an S10 lens unit to go with the P10 I already own. I received the unit this morning, just before we were about to go out to another National Trust property, Hatfield Forest. I fitted the new unit in place of the P10 […]

The perfect GXR

This seems to be an odd post from a man who has just bought a Ricoh GXR so I’ll just preface it with the statement that I love my GXR and think it’s a really novel and interesting idea. However it could have been so much better. The idea Ricoh presented with the GXR was that of a camera that you never have to replace because you can buy new sensor/lens combinations as technology improves, and Ricoh would keep the […]

Abstract image with Ricoh GXR

I took my new GXR into work today and I was playing about with a feature called Full Press Snap. This allows you to set a default focus distance so that if you take a picture by fully pressing the shutter without the half press to focus, the camera automatically focuses to the set distance and takes the exposure. This is a great feature for Street Photography, because you can take the picture almost instantly. With a small sensor unit […]

Ricoh GXR + P10 initial shots / thoughts

I’ve had my Ricoh GXR + P10 camera for a few days now and took it to my Son’s cricket practice this morning to see how it performs. Below are the pictures I took – click any for a better sized image. Although I bought this camera with a P10 unit because that was the best cost deal at Clifton Cameras, I could see that if I could ever afford to buy some Leica M-Mount lenses and the 12M APS-C […]

New Camera – Ricoh GXR + P10

I’ve come to the conclusion that not only do I enjoy taking photographs, I also enjoy owning cameras ! Because I’ve accepted that I no longer feel guilty about buying new cameras, especially when I find a bargain. I’ve liked the look of the Ricoh GXR exchangeable module camera since it was introduced about 4 years ago, but I could never justify the original price asked. I found a few days ago however that Clifton Cameras have the unit on […]

New old cameras

My eBay purchases have turned up. I have a Pentax MZ-5 with Sigma 28-80 macro, a Minolta Dynax 5 with 28-80 & 75-300 and a Ricoh KR-10m. Initial impressions are very good, the Pentax and Minolta in particular look as if they have just come out of the show room. I hope to get a few pictures with each of them over the next few days and then write a longer post on each. Related articles New vintage cameras (simonhawketts.wordpress.com)
