Eyam Hall favourite pictures

When we were in Derbyshire earlier in the year one of the places we visited was Eyam Hall, which is a National Trust property only a few miles from the cottage we stayed in.  We were fortunate because the weather was glorious, and so it presented many photo opportunities for me with both the Pentax K-5 DSLR and Z-1P film SLR. Eyam Hall is an interesting place for a visit, although there is no car park at the actual property […]

Bronica ETRsi first film

This morning I developed the first film I put through my Bronica ETRsi medium format SLR and scanned the negatives. Because it’s winter and I wasn’t sure how much light there would be I chose a fast film (HP5) and developed it in Ilford ID11 developer at a dilution of 1+1. The total development time was 13 minutes at 20°C and then another 15 min in the fixer. The first thing I noticed as I pulled the film from the […]

Ensign Selfix 1620 sample pictures

I’ve developed some black & white pictures from my test run with a selfix 1620 folding camera today, and this post is to publish the resultant scans. As I said in my previous post, I used Illford ID-11 instead of caffinol for the development, and the negatives looked quite good when I first saw them as they came out of the tank. Well, I’m pleased to say that I’m still happy with them now I’ve scanned them and had a […]

Some pictures from Norwich

These pictures were a few which I took on a trip this weekend to the City of Norwich in Norfolk. Although I intended to take a lot more pictures, it turned out to be quite a wet and dull day and my camera stayed in my bag for the majority of the time. You can view the full sized pictures here. Each of these were taken with my Ricoh GXR fitted with the A12 28mm unit and have been post […]

Pentax Z-1P sample pictures

Last week I received a test film back from development which I’d exposed in my Pentax Z-1P, and tonight I got time to scan them on my Epson v550 photo scanner. They suffer from the same basic problems which the negatives I scanned from the Pentax Z-1 suffered – namely poor resolution and very large grain structure, but I put it down to the cheap Agfa Vista+ 200 film I used.  Basically I’m happy that the problems are not to […]

Ricoh GXR A12 50mm black & white pictures

I read an article a few days ago about setting up the Ricoh GXR as a Leica M Monochrom camera replacement and, because it was a dull, gloomy day today when I went for a walk I decided to try out the settings and shoot in black & white. In reality, setting the camera up to act like a Leica Monochrom was as simple as selecting high contrast black & white jpeg and switching to manual exposure mode but I […]

Snowshill Manor National Trust pictures

When we stayed in Gloucestershire recently one of the places we visited was the Manor house at Snowshill, which is a national trust property and this post has a collection of photos which I took whilst we were there. I actually took two cameras with me on the visit to snowshill – my Pentax K5 DSLR, and a Minolta 505si super 35mm film camera fitted with a standard minolta 28 – 80 kit zoom. Each of the pictures shown here […]

A few samples from a Schneider Edixa Xenar 50mm f/2.8 lens

It was a few months ago that I bought an Edixa-Mat Reflex B slr camera which came with a Schneider-Kreuznach Xenar lens fitted and I thought I would try fitting it to my Ricoh GXR A12 module and get a few sample shots to see how it performs. The Xenar lens is an M42 mount unit but it has a somewhat non-standard auto/manual lever which fouls on the mount adapter, so in order to fit the lens it needs to […]

Flowers shot on film

I’ve been using film cameras quite a bit over the last few weeks and I’ve collected together some pictures which all share the same subject – flowers. These were taken with a variety of film cameras – a Pentax SFXn, Minolta Dynax 505si Super and Pentax MZ-30. The film used was Fuji Superia 400 colour negative film and Agfa Vista plus 200, and all were taken in Aperture Priority mode on their respective cameras. After development the negatives were scanned […]

Chipping Campden snapshots

This post features a series of pictures which I took in the village of Chipping Campden in Gloucestershire during our recent visit. You can view this using the gallery below or follow this link to see them in full size. On the Monday the weather forecast was really quite wet so we left James and Emma in the holiday cottage with my Mum (who joined us on holiday this year) while Jan & I went to the most local town […]

Favourite pictures – Eddie

While we were visiting Gloucestershire recently we went to Bourton-on-the-Water to visit the model village there. As we were walking through the village I saw this dog playing in the water and stopped to get a few pictures of him. Although I don’t know the dog’s actual name, for the purposes of this post I’ve called him Eddie because to me he looked like an Eddie. I took this with my Sigma 18-125 HSM zoom fitted to the Pentax K5 […]

Evening in Gloucestershire

On a recent trip to Gloucestershire I took out my Pentax K5 fitted with a Sigma 18-125 HSM zoom for an evening walk and took these pictures of the local countryside bathed in late evening sunshine. All these pictures have been imported into Lightroom CC for post processing and then exported at 1600px on the longest edge. To see them at full size follow this link. As well as my K5 I also took along a Pentax SFXn loaded with […]

Galaxy S6 sample pictures

I’ve owned my Galaxy Note 2 for about 4 years now and have generally been very happy with the performance and features it offers, but over the last few months it has started to suffer with the normal mobile phone problem of getting slower and slower to do anything. So this week I did an upgrade and got myself a Galaxy S6 as a replacement. Obviously, being a photographer one of the most important aspects of a phone to me is […]

Black and white pictures around Stevenage

A few months ago I started working from home rather than going into an office every day, so I’ve started having a walk early in the morning to make sure I get some exercise. This morning I took along my Pentax K5 in order to take a few pictures as I walked around. I wasn’t very impressed when I got back and reviewed the pictures. I’ve walked the route so many times that nothing seems new or different so any […]

Back to film

During our recent trip to CentreParcs in Bedfordshire I had a go at film photography again for the first time in many years so I thought I’d write a quick post describing the experience. As it turned out I didn’t take quite the equipment list I originally thought I would because I decided the Miranda F and the Miranda G were so alike that it would be a bit of a wasted opportunity not to take something a bit different. […]
