The couple

This picture was taken in the cycle paths at Alexandra Palace, North London in September 2012. I saw this couple pushing their child along the cycle path and I thought it made a nice family scene. The trees which fold over them seem to frame the couple nicely and the light falls on them to form a natural highlight. The Moat round The Bishops Palace in Wells

This is another picture I took in the City of Wells when we were on holiday last year. This is a picture of the moat around the bishops palace on a dull murky day in August 12012. Minolta Dynax 5 autofocus camera

This is a review of the Minolta Dynax 5, one of the last 35mm film, autofocus single lens reflex cameras made by Minolta before they moved to digital cameras. Minolta Dynax 5 Images As I implied above, it doesn’t seem correct to call the Dynax 5 a vintage camera because it is in the ‘last film camera’ class before Minolta moved to digital camera production. Of course Minolta, as a camera manufacturer has gone now, having been sold to Konica […]

Murky day on Minehead beach

These are a series of pictures I took on Minehead beach in Somerset last summer. It was a fairly murky day (as the whole week was really – well the whole summer) so there wasn’t much colour about, but it’s still possible to be some interesting pictures even in those circumstances. All pictures were taken with a Pentax K-5 and Sigma 18-125 HSM zoom. Click on the pictures for an expanded view.

The Bishops Palace – Wells Cathedral

When we went on holiday in Somerset last year we stayed at a place called Wookey Hole which is about 2 miles from the city of Wells. Because we had some pretty rotten weather (and the London Olympics were on the TV which we were quite interested in) we didn’t travel too far, but one of the places we did visit was Wells Cathedral and the Bishops Palace. The picture above was taken with my Pentax K-5 fitted with a […]

A Picture of Wells cathedral

This is a picture of  Wells Cathedral in Somerset, as seen from The Bishops Palace in Wells, which I took on a recent holiday in the region. Picture of Wells Cathedral It was a murky day when I took this picture in August 2012 and that is obviously captured in the picture. It would have made a more attractive image, if there had been a touch of blue in the sky, but there are at least some nice reflections in […]

Wookey hole caves – high iso with a K-5

Since I bought my Pentax K-5 one of the things I’ve been most impressed with is the low noise at high ISO settings and the picture picture below is one which amply demonstrates this. I’ve already posted about the K-5’s high iso low noise performance and used a small version of this picture in that post, but I think this picture is quite nice on its own merits so I thought I’d do a separate post featuring it. We were on […]
