A day in London

These pictures are a couple of years old now – I took them during a family trip to the London Aquarium in August 2011 which I posted about a while ago, but I’ve not published these particular pictures before and I’ve given them a bit of a make over in Lightroom. As I remember I took two cameras with me that day, a Pentax K-r and and Olympus E-PL1, (neither of which I now have unfortunately) and these were all […]

Sunshine and snow

This is a new treatment of an old picture which I took a couple of years ago with a Pentax K-r and a Tamron 10-24mm super wide angle lens. I took it during a snowy period in the field across the road from us and particularly like the starburst effect the Sun has which I believe is caused by the small aperture used. The main post processing which I carried out was to increase the saturation in the sky and […]

Weekly Challenge: Horizon 2

This is my second post in the weekly challenge, but essentially the same subject – Sea & Sky. This picture was taken in Sherringham using a Pentax K-r and a Tamron 10-24mm Super Wide angle lens set to it’s widest 10mm setting. The Merry-go-round

This Merry-go-round is on the banks of the Thames river in London, just along the bank from the Aquarium. There are a variety of street entertainments going on along this stretch of the river. We saw people dressed up as statues, A man with a large loop of string which he dipped in bubble making liquid to blow bubbles over the children and lots of people selling a variety of novelties. I took this picture with a Pentax K-r and […]

Seafront at Sherringham

This is the seafront as Sherringham on the North Norfolk coast on one of those rare days when the Sun is out and it’s warm. I took this with a Pentax K-r and Tamron super wide angle 10-24mm zoom in August 2011. The princess Diana memorial fountain

This is the Princess Diana memorial fountain in Hyde Park, London.   On a day in London in 2012, we walked round Hyde Park and visited the memorial fountain. I expected it to be a more traditional fountain, but is in reality a molded concrete stream with different widths and water flows in a large oval shape. Emma had great fun paddling in it, and that seemed to be a common activity on the bright sunny day we were there. […]

Frost and Snow

These pictures were taken on a frosty Saturday in Feb 2012 with my Pentax K-r DSLR and a variety of lenses, either a Tamron 70-300mm Macro Zoom or the Pentax 18-55 Standard Kit lens. I found it quite difficult getting the correct exposure (this is before I knew about the 17% grey rule which cameras use to evaluate exposure) so there was some general lifting of exposure in Lightroom, consequently some I like and others I’m not so sure about. […]

Couple by the serpentine

I took this image of a couple walking beside the serpentine in London’s Hyde Park in August 2012 originally as a colour picture but I think it’s one of those images which looks better in black and white. I converted it to black and white using Lightroom 4 from the original raw image file and added some grain to simulate film. Pentax K-r Sigma 18-125 HSM zoom 1/90sec f/11 iso200 45mm

Emma

This is a picture of my Daughter Emma taken on a holiday in Norfolk in August 2011. We were on the North Norfolk Steam Railway and I called to her as she was looking from the window. She turned and I got this shot which I think is nice because she kept a natural look. By contrast my Son James always puts on a ‘posed’ look when I have a camera so doesn’t photograph as well! I used a Tamron […]

Having a sniff around

Whilst we were at Alexandra Palace for a paper craft fair I was taking some pictures of James & Emma when I spotted this dog sniffing about the grass in the distance. I had my Tamron 70 – 300 mm zoom fitted to my Pentax K-r and I took this shot. I know this is just a dog having a  sniff around in the grass, but somehow the bush to the right, the sunlight and the dog’s position seems to […]

St Giles church, Codicote

This is St Giles church in Codecote in Hertfordshire. I took a trip out to this Church in January 2012, armed with my Pentax k-r and Tamron 10-24mm Super Wide Angle lens. It was a dull and grey day, but fortunately not wet and I was able to get several shots of this attractive old church. Emma came with me and she also took some pictures with her camera, so it was an entertainment for her as well as a […]

Oil seed field in Hertfordshire

Oils seed is common in Hertfordshire and makes a picturesque view in the fields. Last year many of the fields around our house were given over to this crop and with my Sigma 18-125mm fitted to my Pentax K-r I walked the half mile to the closest field one day in May to get some photos. These pictures are the best of the 10 or so I took that day. As always I shot the series in raw and then post […]

The lucky moment

There are some pictures which are planned and there are some which are pure luck. This picture was a mixture of both. We were on holiday in CenterParcs at Elvden Forest in February 2012 and we went to one of the lakes to have a walk round the shore. I saw that this presented an opportunity for some nature pictures so I fitted my Tamron 70-300 mm telezoom to my Pentax K-r and we started to walk. There is an […]
