Say hello to Freddy

I wanted to introduce everyone to a new member of our family who will probably be the subject of many photos over the next few years. His name is Freddy and he is a 6 week old Cockapoo puppy who we visited for the second time today and is going to be joining us permanently in two weeks time. We decided a few months ago that it would be a good idea to have a family pet and it didn’t […]

Emma in the park at Crich

When we recently went to the Crich tramway museum in Derbyshire I took a lot of pictures with my Pentax K5, but I also took along a Pentax MZ-3 loaded with Ilford HP5+ black & white film. The picture above is one of the pictures I took that day, and developed in Rodinal a couple of days ago. This was taken with a Sigma 24 to 70 autofocus zoom lens fitted to the MZ-3 set to about 60mm and about […]

Crich Tramway Museum

This post contains some more the the pictures I took at the Crich Tramway Museum when we visited recently. They were all taken with a Pentax K5 DSLR and either a Sigma 18-125 HSM zoom or a Tamron 10-24 Super Wide angle zoom. Unfortunately, the day we visited was quite cold and grey, so most of the pictures I took were lit by cloudy skies, but there was still enough light to use reasonably low ISO settings, and even get […]

Chatsworth house interior

Yesterday I posted an image of Chatsworth House in Derbyshire taken from the gardens. Today I’m posting a wide angel view of the interior of the house taken at high ISO with my Pentax K5. One of the biggest problems taking photos in the interior of stately homes is that they are generally very dark and don’t normally allow the use of flash to take pictures. Because of this you basically have to turn the ISO on the camera very […]

Some pictures from Gunby Hall

While I was sorting through some pictures to archive and save disk space I found a whole set I took at Gunby Hall in Lincolnshire during our holiday in the summer which I never actually published on this blog. Although they are not fantastically artistic, I still like to record  the places we have visited so I’m publishing them now a few months late. Gunby Hall Pictures These pictures can also be viewed full size here. They were all taken […]

Chipping Campden snapshots

This post features a series of pictures which I took in the village of Chipping Campden in Gloucestershire during our recent visit. You can view this using the gallery below or follow this link to see them in full size. On the Monday the weather forecast was really quite wet so we left James and Emma in the holiday cottage with my Mum (who joined us on holiday this year) while Jan & I went to the most local town […]

Bourton-on-the-water snapshots

This is a family post with pictures I took on a recent day spent in Bourton-on-the-water in Gloucestershire. View them using the gallery below or see them in full size using this link. Although there was a forecast for some rain about it turned out to be a beautiful summers day with uninterrupted  sunshine from the moment we arrived. Too much sunshine actually – I don’t like the heat much. I’d taken my DSLR kit with me which consists of […]

National railway museum York

During a recent trip to York we visited the National Railway Museum which is conveniently situated next to a Park and Ride bus stop in the city. I assumed that I would need to use a fairly wide angle lens to take pictures of the engines, so I packed my Tamron 10-24mm super wide angle along with a Takumar 28mm f/3.5 and Takumar 55mm f/1.8 to use on my Camdiox focal reducer. As it happens I mostly used the longest […]

Favourite pictures – Emma waiting with rabbit.

I took this short sequence of pictures while we were on holiday at CenterParcs in Woburn Forest last September and hadn’t really looked at them again since we got home but as I was looking through my Lightroom Library this evening I realised how much I liked them. I took them with my Sony Nex 6 fitted with a telephoto lens. Because we were on holiday in CenterParcs I wasn’t following my usual routine so I can’t be sure of […]

The Coach

Today my son went on his first school residential visit. He is away for 4 days and we went to his school to see him off at lunchtime. I took along my Ricoh GXR with an S10 sensor unit and took a few photos. Although they are all essentially snapshots, I particularly liked this one when I first saw it and thought it would make a reasonable post to record the day. This is post processed in Lightroom 5 with […]

Some family pictures from Center Parcs in Nottingham

These are some pictures I took in the Nottingham Center Parcs when we stayed there for a weekend in September. We have been to Center Parcs several times over the last few years, but we mostly go to the Thetford Forest site near the village of Elvden. This time we went to Sherwood again for the first time for about 4 years. There pictures were taken with either my Pentax K5 or the Ricoh GXR fitted with an S10 module.

Emma

We went to Cambridge today to meet my Mum and Dad, Brother and Sister and families for a party to celebrate my mothers 80th birthday. After we had eaten we went for a walk and I took this picture of my daughter Emma as she was looking for bottle tops amongst the trees (I know – bottle tops ? She decided to collect them today). This was post processed in Lightroom with a reduced clarity to give it a dreamy […]

Family pictures – Portrait of Emma

This is a portrait I took of my Daughter Emma in the woods at Knebworth House dinosaur park. It was one of those pictures which occurred after I’d been trying to get her to pose for a picture for several minutes. I had her looking at the camera, away from the camera, pointing into the woods and a variety of other poses. Although I took several images, none of them really stood out so I had given up and was […]
