Ricoh Caplio R1v digital compact camera

I’ve had a soft spot for the Ricoh Caplio range of digital cameras for a while now, so I was really pleased to pick up a Ricoh Caplio R1v as part of a bundle purchase of cameras recently. It is a small, fully automatic, 5Mp  snap shot camera dating from about 2005 with several interesting features which are typical of the Ricoh range. Glasgow tram in Crich tramway museum

We went to the tram museum in Crich in Derbyshire today where I took this picture of a tram, originally from Glasgow, with a Pentax K5 and Sigma 18-125 HSM Zoom lens. In a future post I will include other pictures I took, including some black & white pictures on HP5 film and some colour slide images on Agfa CT-100 film.

Topcon UV Topcor 28mm f/4 lens on Sony Nex

A couple of months ago I made myself a Topcon UV adapter for my Sony Nex camera and over the last couple of days I’ve been trying out one of my Topcor UV lenses with it – the Topcon UV Topcor 28mm f/4. The Topcon UV series are difficult to adapt to modern digital cameras because the aperture adjuster was fitted to the camera body rather than the lens – this is why I needed to make my own adapter […]

Fujifilm MX-2900 Zoom digital camera

As a collector of vintage camera equipment I normally look out for traditional film cameras to add to my collection, but over the last few weeks, since I acquired a Fuji S2 Pro DSLR, I’ve been more and more interested in digital cameras and recently picked up a Fujifilm MX-2900 digital camera. Although they are not as old as the 35mm and medium format cameras I own, I’m really interested in all forms of photographic history, so I decided that […]

Fuji S2 Pro digital camera – part two

This is the second part of my look at the Fuji S2 Pro digital camera. In the first part I looked at some of the general functionality of the camera, and related how I managed to acquire my copy. In this part I’m going to share my experiences of using the camera, and show some more sample pictures from it. My general experiences of using the camera are that it is quite a big unit to carry around, but it’s […]

The advantages of Digital photography

I’ve recently purchased a few old 35mm cameras and because I’ve started to write a post about them I took one to work today with the intention of shooting some pictures for the post. I walked into work as well to maximise my photo opportunities and during the walk I started thinking about the advantages of Digital Photography over film photography. It was about 7:00 am when I set out on the 50 minute walk and I took a Pentax […]
