Canon PowerShot A40 digital camera

The subject of this short article is one of Canon’s early ventures into digital photography, the PowerShot A40 compact camera. This 2Mp, compact, zoom camera was made in about 2002 and offered a range of features for both the holiday snapshot photographer and the more advanced user. Canon PowerShot A40 Images My Canon PowerShot A40 I’ve had my copy of the PowerShot A40 for a number of months now having bought it when I became interested in vintage digital cameras […]

Nikon Coolpix 995 digital camera – part 1

This is a look at the Nikon Coolpix 995 camera which was introduced by Nikon in about 2001. It follows the design of other Coolpix cameras in that the optical unit is separate from the display unit, making it possible to hold the body at an angle where the screen is easily seen while the lens is pointing at the subject. In effect, this was an early attempt to solve the problem which is currently solved with an articulating screen. […]

Olympus Camedia C-5050 Zoom

The Camedia series of cameras were made for a long time by Olympus and ranged from some quite simple point and shoot units to much more sophisticated  cameras. The Olympus Camedia C-5050 Zoom is certainly towards the top end of that line. Olympus Camedia C-5050 Images My Olympus Camedia C-5050 I paid a total of £11-30 for this camera which, considering the quality of the unit is a fantastic buy. I bought it because it is in the same family […]

Ricoh G600 sample pictures

Last week I wrote a review of the Ricoh G600 ruggedised camera, and over the last couple of days I’ve been trying the camera out and taking some test pictures with it. Ricoh G600 Sample Pictures Ricoh G600 Shooting Experience and results In common with most compact cameras the G600 doesn’t have an optical viewfinder and therefore the LCD has to be used to compose and review pictures. Although LCDs generally are really not good for this, I found the […]

Ricoh R1v Sample pictures

A few days ago I posted an article reviewing my Ricoh R1v digital compact camera and today I’m going to add to that post by describing my experiences of shooting with it, and show some Ricoh R1v sample pictures. First, for the impatient, here are the pictures. Ricoh R1v sample pictures In order to try the Ricoh R1v out, I took a walk around the old town area of Stevenage this morning and used the camera in the way it […]

Film or Digital ?

Over the last 6 to 12 months it’s become more and more frequent that when I go anywhere to take pictures I will take along a film camera as well as my Pentax K5 or Sony Nex 6 digital camera. Because of that I have several instances where I have pictures which have been captured with both a digital sensor and film so I thought  it would be interesting to try to compare the images and see which I find […]

Ricoh GXR A12 Mount first impressions

I posted a while ago about discovering new lens units for my Ricoh GXR camera from a site in China. Well, I found that the same supplier also had the Ricoh GXR A12 Leica mount sensor unit for a very good price and so I decided to get that as well. Ricoh GXR A12 images This is different from the other units I’ve bought because it is a sensor only unit fitted with a Leica bayonet M mount. That seems […]

Users view of the Tamron 90mm F/2.8 SP di

I bought this Tamron 90mm f/2.8 SP di lens about 18 months ago as a 1:1 macro lens to be a supplement to my Tamron 70 – 300mm Macro Zoom. Although the zoom is a nice lens and was remarkably cheap (about £90) I wanted a lens that would produce a full 1:1 macro and be of better quality. Because I owned a Pentax camera, the choice in a Pentax K mount came down to Pentax SMC-D FA 100mm f/2.8 […]

Bury my head

I went out with my Tamron 90 mm Lens again today to try to get some Butterfly pictures. The weather forecast had suggested that it was going to be warm and sunny today, but in the end it was quite cold and windy so I didn’t find any butterflies at all. I did find this chap however nestling under a buttercup leaf, trying to keep warm perhaps ? Tamron 90mm F/2.8 Pentax K-5 f/4.0 1/500 iso320
