Ciro-flex TLR shutter strip down and service

A couple of weeks ago I picked up a nice Ciro-flex Twin Lens Reflex camera from eBay for a few pounds which was described as needing a little bit of work. One of the issues described was that the aperture blades were a bit stiff to adjust and when I received the camera I discovered (as I suspected) that the aperture blades needed to be cleaned up to remove some old grease and dirt which was sticking them together. This […]

Crich tram museum on Ilford HP5+

When we recently visited the Crich tram museum I took quite a few pictures with my Pentax K5 DSLR and posted the pictures I was most pleased with a few days ago. As well as the K5, I also took along a Pentax MZ-3 loaded with Ilford HP5+ film, and although I’ve posted some of the pictures I took with that combination, this post is to publish the others. Just for the record, I developed the film in a 1 […]

Derbyshire on Agfa CT-100 colour slide film

A couple of weeks ago we were on holiday in Derbyshire and naturally being a photographer I wanted to take some cameras with me. As well as digital pictures I also wanted to take some Agfa CT-100 colour slides, so I made my camera choices for the trip based on that requirement. Agfa CT-100 Colour slide film images Normally I would take along my Fuji X-T1 mirrorless camera, but because of the desire to take slide pictures as well, I decided […]

Ihagee Exa 500 slow speed repair

A couple of weeks ago I bought an Ihagee Exa 500 35mm slr which was in pretty good condition, but had an issue with the slow shutter speeds which were taking too long to run. Today I dismantled the camera to fix this issue, and I took a few photos which I hope will help anyone who needs to do the same thing. A sluggish slow speed escapement is a common problem with a lot of old cameras and is […]

Crich tramway museum on HP5

This is the walkway leading to the main part of the ‘village’ at the Crich Tramway museum which we visited last week. As with the pictures I published earlier, this picture was taken with a Pentax MZ-3 autofocus 35mm slr on HP5+ film developed in Rodinal and scanned with an Epson V550 Perfection scanner. I have done a little bit of post processing in Lightroom on this picture – adding a bit of noise reduction and sharpening to give the […]

Emma in the park at Crich

When we recently went to the Crich tramway museum in Derbyshire I took a lot of pictures with my Pentax K5, but I also took along a Pentax MZ-3 loaded with Ilford HP5+ black & white film. The picture above is one of the pictures I took that day, and developed in Rodinal a couple of days ago. This was taken with a Sigma 24 to 70 autofocus zoom lens fitted to the MZ-3 set to about 60mm and about […]

Pentax Program A sample pictures

I’ve had a film in my Pentax Program A 35mm camera since a couple of weeks after I bought it and I’ve been taking occasional pictures with it over the last year or so. Because there was still film remaining in the camera, when we recently spent a week in Derbyshire the Program A was one of the camera that I took with me to complete the film and get it developed. It was only after I’d completed it and […]

The Exa line of cameras was an entry level 35mm camera made by Ihagee in Dresden, which was started as a model for people who didn’t want to go the the expense of the company’s Exakta range. Over the years, Ihagee made several models culminating in the Exakta Exa 500 which was the last model made. Exakta Exa 500 Images My Exakta Exa 500 Camera I bought my copy of the Exa 500 from ebay as a non working unit […]

Voigtlander Vito 35mm Folding camera

The Voigtlander Vito is a 35mm folding camera fitted with a Prontor II shutter, a Voigtlander Skopar 50mm f/3.5 lens and was made just after the second world war in about 1947. Voigtlander Vito Images My Voigtlander Vito Camera I bought this camera from ebay for about £5 which is a reasonably good price to acquire a Voigtlander. I think the reasons the camera didn’t make more were because the seller described it as an ‘old camera’ and not a […]

Exakta Exa II shutter repair

Over the last couple of days I’ve been stripping down and repairing my Exakta Exa II 35mm slr which had a fault with the shutter first curtain sticking in the frame and this post covers the process I used during my Exakta Exa II shutter repair. I’m happy to say I managed to get that fault fixed, and also cleaned up the focus screen, replaced the light seals and generally cleaned up and re-lubricated the mechanism. The following describes how […]

Topcon Wink E Mirror strip down – part one

A couple of weeks ago I bought a Topcon Wink E Mirror 35mm slr for a few pounds on eBay and I spent a couple of hours today stripping it down to fix a problem with the shutter cocking. When I first received the camera I cocked the shutter once and the camera seemed to work properly. However, once I tripped the shutter I couldn’t get it to cock again, and the shutter blades were closed, so I started to […]

Miranda dx-3 35mm slr camera

I’ve been a fan of Miranda cameras for quite a while and have most of the models they produced but until recently I’d not owned the last model that Miranda made, the Miranda dx-3. Well, I corrected that situation a few days ago when I picked up a pristine condition dx-3 from eBay. Miranda dx-3 Images My Miranda dx-3 Camera There are a couple of reasons I’d not bought a dx-3 before – they don’t appear very often and they […]

Agfa Colorflex strip down – part 1

A few weeks ago I acquired an Agfa Colorflex 35mm, fixed lens, slr camera which had a few problems with the shutter. In order to see what was wrong I needed to remove the shutter from the camera, and this short post shows the sequence I went through to do that. Agfa Colorflex Strip down pictures Removing the shutter from the Agfa Colorflex camera body was a relatively easy operation, as the sequence above shows, but once I’d removed it […]
