Some samples from a Meyer-Optik Primotar f/2.8 50mm

A few weeks ago I bought a Praktica IV 35mm slr which came fitted with a Meyer-Optik Primotar M42 mount, pre-set lens. As is my usual practice when I discover a new lens, I like to try it on a modern digital camera to see how it performs, so I attached this one to my Ricoh GXR A12 M Mount with a suitable adapter, and took some pictures during one of my morning walks about Stevenage. The Primotar is an […]

Flowers shot on film

I’ve been using film cameras quite a bit over the last few weeks and I’ve collected together some pictures which all share the same subject – flowers. These were taken with a variety of film cameras – a Pentax SFXn, Minolta Dynax 505si Super and Pentax MZ-30. The film used was Fuji Superia 400 colour negative film and Agfa Vista plus 200, and all were taken in Aperture Priority mode on their respective cameras. After development the negatives were scanned […]

Praktica BMS 35mm electronic camera

This Praktica BMS is the sister of another Praktica camera in my collection that I posted about a while ago, the Praktica B100 electronic. Whereas the B100 was an attempt at a fully automatic camera, on the BMS the exposure is set completely manually. Praktica BMS Images My Praktica BMS Camera I obtained this camera, as with most of my vintage camera collection, from eBay uk for a very reasonable £5.73 + £4.90 p&p. It seems to be in just about […]

A few samples from a Meyer-Optik Domiplan

This post shares a few sample pictures and a video I took with my Sony Nex 6 camera fitted with an M42 mount Meyer-Optik Domiplan 50mm f/2.8 manual lens. I received this lens as part of a Praktica Nova 1B kit I bought from eBay last week and I’ve been interested in how the lens would perform. I may do a fuller review later, but for the moment I’m quite impressed with the quality of this lens, which was a […]

Meyer-Optik Lydith 30mm f3.5 on Sony Nex

This a a short review of the Meyer-Optik Lydith 30mm manual focus lens on a sony Nex 6 mirrorless camera. First here are some pictures of the lens Meyer-Optik Lydith Images I bought this lens from Ebay for £25 which I consider to be a bit of a bargain. I have seen these lenses for up to £60 so I was amazed to find this one for only £25 in a ‘buy it now’ sale and snapped it up at […]

Pentacon 29mm f/2.8 lens on Nex

This is a short pictorial review of the Pentacon 29mm f/2.8 Multi Coated manual lens on the Sony Nex 6 camera. This is another M42 mount lens which represents incredible value for money if you are prepared to do a little more setup and manual intervention in your photography. You won’t get lots of automatic settings, but you can get some brilliant images if you just apply a little thought and can use the focus ring! The normal cost for […]

Pentacon electric 50mm f/1.8 review on Sony Nex 6

A few weeks ago I wrote a post about stripping and cleaning a Pentacon Electric 50mm f/1.8 manual lens and I included a few sample pictures with that post but I thought it would be interesting to do a more in-depth review of this readily available lens. I actually have two copies of this lens. The first, which was the subject of the post I mentioned above, and another one which came with a very good condition Praktica PLC3 35mm […]

Pentacon 30mm f/3.5 M42 lens on Sony Nex

This is a brief review of the Pentacon 30mm f/3.5 prime lens fitted with an M42 screw thread lens fitted to my Sony Nex 6 camera. Pentacon 30mm f/3.5 Images I bought this lens from E-Bay UK for £7 as a ‘sold as seen’ lens because it had some internal dust. Since lens of this vintage are normally reasonably easy to take apart I thought it was worth while trying it out to see what sort of performance I could […]

Stripping and cleaning a Pentacon electric 50mm f/1.8

This week I made another purchase for my Nex 6 in the form of a Pentacon Electric 50mm f/1.8 prime lens. It actually came attached to a Praktica PLC3 slr which I purchased as ‘For spares or repair’ from e-bay for £13. When I received the camera I found that the description was quite accurate! The body is in reasonable condition but the shutter speed selection and the iso setting are not working properly, and when I tried to adjust […]
