Petri Penta V6 35mm slr

This is the first of a two part review of the Petri Penta V6 35mm slr camera. This part is a description of the camera and its spec, and also covers how I acquired my copy of the camera. The second, follow up post will cover my impressions of using the camera and some test shots taken with it. My Petri Penta V6 Camera I bought this camera as a twin camera set along with a Petri Flex V camera. The Petri […]

Stripping down and cleaning a Petri Flex V

I have a couple of Petri Flex V cameras which are both in need of a clean and a service. One unit which I bought about 6 months ago has a problem with the lens mount and also sometimes applies Bulb mode on the slow speeds. The other unit is much better cosmetically, but the second curtain only slowly travels across the film gate most times, and the focusing screen is really dirty. I decided it would be a fun […]

Petri 55mm f/2.0 CC lens aperture repair

Over the last few months I’ve bought a couple of Petri or Petriflex cameras and one of them had a 55mm standard lens with a few problems with the aperture blades. Since I recently had another lens apart to look at an aperture problem and therefore ‘have my eye in’, I thought this might be a good opportunity to fix the Petri lens as well. These pictures can also be viewed full size here. It turned out that the Petri […]

Petri FTII 35mm review and repair

This is a review/description of the Petri FTII 35mm camera which was made in about 1971 by Petri in Japan. My Petri FTII Camera I bought this camera for £1.30 because it was sold as faulty and I wanted to see if I could fix it. When I received the camera, the problem was that the film advance was locked and the shutter wouldn’t fire. These sort of problems are generally because the camera mechanism has managed to get caught […]

London Zoo – 35mm slides from 1980 (part 3)

This is the third and final post in a series of pictures I took in about 1980 at London Zoo with either a Petri MF-1 camera, or an Olympus OM-20 on kodachrome 64 film. I recently re-discovered them in my late Father’s office. The other posts in this series are Part 1 and Part 2. For more information about the processing involved please refer to the other posts in the series. You can view the pictures in greater detail by […]

London Zoo – 35mm slides from 1980 (part 2)

This is a follow up to the post of a couple of weeks ago with some more pictures taken c1980 with either a Petri MF-1 or an Olympus OM-20 camera. Having sorted through some more of my Dad’s old box of slides I found a further two sets of colour slide films which I took during a visit to London zoo. These were all duplicated with a slide duplicator rather than scanned and I think they are better as a result. […]

Views around London from 1980

I said a couple of weeks ago that I had discovered a whole load of colour slides in my late father’s office and that I am working through scanning them. In fact, I’ve discovered that I can get much better results by duplicating them using a slide duplicator I’ve bought and I’ve also discovered that not all the slides were ones that he took – some are pictures my bother took when he was in the merchant navy, and some […]

Petri 7s II rangefinder camera

The Petri 7s II is a 35mm rangefinder camera manufactured sometime in the mid 1970’s. It was a replacement for the Petri 7s which was in turn itself a replacement for the original Petri 7 manufactured from about 1960. I purchased my copy from eBay uk for about £8 a few months ago, and so far I’ve done nothing with it other than make sure that the shutter fires, the aperture at least opens and closes and the exposure system […]

Vintage Camera collection – Petri MF-1

Being an avid photographer I have owned a number of cameras over the last 40 or so years, many of which I no longer own. It’s a matter of regret now that I didn’t keep some of these cameras, although realistically I probably wouldn’t actually shoot any film on them even if I still owned them. Still, one of the first cameras I ever bought is the subject of this post – the Petri MF-1. The first SLR I owned […]
