Fujifilm MX-2900 Zoom digital camera

As a collector of vintage camera equipment I normally look out for traditional film cameras to add to my collection, but over the last few weeks, since I acquired a Fuji S2 Pro DSLR, I’ve been more and more interested in digital cameras and recently picked up a Fujifilm MX-2900 digital camera. Although they are not as old as the 35mm and medium format cameras I own, I’m really interested in all forms of photographic history, so I decided that […]

Fuji S2 Pro digital camera – part two

This is the second part of my look at the Fuji S2 Pro digital camera. In the first part I looked at some of the general functionality of the camera, and related how I managed to acquire my copy. In this part I’m going to share my experiences of using the camera, and show some more sample pictures from it. My general experiences of using the camera are that it is quite a big unit to carry around, but it’s […]

Taking a last drink

This picture was taken just as the sun set over the boating lake at CenterParcs Elvden Forest and shows a bird in the foreground taking a drink at the waters edge. It was taken with a Fuji X-T1 and Fujinon 18-135mm set to 18mm and the exposure was manually set.

Fuji Finepix S2 Pro digital camera

This is a bit of a departure from my usual posts about vintage film cameras because the subject of this post is a digital camera. However, considering the rapid advancements that have taken place in digital camera design, the Fuji finepix S2 Pro, having been released in 2002, is an interesting look back at one of the first good quality, large sensor digital cameras available. Fuji Finepix S2 Pro Images My Fuji Finepix S2 Pro Camera I bought this camera […]

Tattershall Castle battle re-enactment

Last week I posted a picture of Tattershall Castle National trust property where we visited whilst we were on holiday in Lincolnshire. Now I’m back, and have access to a proper Internet connection, I can upload a few more pictures which I took on the day of the battle re-enactment. These pictures can be viewed full size here. Unfortunately, on the day, we were too far away from the loudspeakers to properly hear what was being announced, so I don’t […]

Some views of Lincoln city

We have been away on holiday to Lincolnshire for a week and spent a couple of days in Lincoln City centre. While we were there I spent lots of time taking pictures with my Fuji X-T1 mirror-less fitted with both the 18-135mm zoom lens I purchased with it and my Tamron 10-24mm pentax k-mount super wide angel lens. A selection of the pictures I took are included below. Pictures of Lincoln City We found Lincoln to be a very beautiful […]

Tattershall castle in Lincolnshire

A couple of days ago we went to the National Trust’s Tattershall Castle in Lincolnshire while they had a battle re-enactment and I used it as an opportunity to take pictures with both my Fuji X-T1 mirror-less and Pentax MZ-3 35mm slr loaded with colour slide film.  Although it will be  few days before I can get the colour slides developed from the MZ-3, one of the best of the Fuji X-T1 pictures is included below. Tattershall Castle This picture […]

Gunby hall National Trust property

Today we visited the Gunby Hall national trust property in Lincolnshire and below is one of the better pictures I took during our visit. This picture was taken using my Fuji X-T1 mirror-less camera and a Tamron 10-24mm f/3.5 super wide angle lens. The lens, which is pentax K mount, was fitted to the camera body with a simple adapter which allowed me to adjust the aperture, although I couldn’t tell the actual aperture used. Fortunately because it was a […]

Holiday camera choices

For any vintage camera enthusiast, holiday time always leaves you with a bit of a headache. You know that you will be presented with lots of photo opportunities over the coming few days and that starts you thinking about the ideal cameras to take with you, but when you have a collection of 100 plus it isn’t always simple to narrow the choice. Since we are going away in a couple of weeks on a family holiday to Lincolnshire, I’ve […]

Auto Chinon 200mm f/3.5 telephoto lens on Fuji X-T1

An example can be picked up for almost no money on well known on-line auction sites and are easily adapted to use with a modern mirror-less camera like the Fuji X-T1. Zuiko 50mm f/1.8 on Fuji X-T1 mirror-less

The great thing about mirror-less cameras is that they make it easy to use a variety of classic lenses from the golden era of primary lenses – the days when every camera was supplied with a 50mm fast lens instead of a slow zoom. As a collector of vintage cameras, I have many of these lenses and over the last couple of days I’ve been trying a vintage Olympus lens, the Zuiko 50mm f/1.8, on my new Fuji X-T1 camera. […]

Sigma Mini-Wide 28mm f/2.8 on Fuji X-T1

This post describes the Sigma Mini-Wide 28mm f/2.8 manual focus lens from the 1970’s and its use on a modern APS-C sensor, Fuji X-T1 camera. Sigma Mini-Wide 28mm f/2.8 sample images 28mm is a great focal length to use on a crop sensor camera like the X-T1 because with its equivalent focal length of 42mm it’s a cheap way to get a fast ‘std lens’ setup. This focal length lens is also generally readily available because there were lots made […]

Fuji X-T1 and Fujinon XF 27mm f/2.8 pancake lens

When I bought my Fuji X-T1 a couple of weeks ago there was a double cashback offer available which meant I could pick up an additional lens and get a really good deal. There are several lenses I intend to buy at some point, but the first one I decided to get was the Fujinon xf 27mm f/2.8 pancake lens which I picked up at the same time as I bought the camera. Today I had to go on a […]

Fuji X-T1 macro sample pictures

Today I’ve been out with a Tamron 90mm f/2.8 macro lens to see the Fuji X-T1 macro capability using this Pentax K mount lens. Fuji X-T1 macro sample pictures Because the lens was mounted on a Fuji X mount to Pentax K mount adapter I had to use manual focus and I used either aperture priority exposure mode, or manual mode with auto ISO. The metering was set to matrix or pattern metering in all cases. I found the easiest […]

Fuji X-T1 first impressions

Having owned my Fuji X-T1 for a couple of days I thought I’d write a brief post on the features I find most outstanding in my limited experience. First, for those unfamiliar with the X-T1, it’s an APS-C sensor mirror-less camera with interchangeable lens, electronic viewfinder, a good level of configurability, full weather sealing and excellent controls reminiscent of a 1970s film camera. It’s also true to say that it is made by one of the original camera manufacturers who have […]
