Walk in Winter

walk in winter
Pentax K-r 1/2000 @ f/5.6 iso200 260mm

This is another of my favorite images from the pictures I’ve taken.

I went for a walk just after a heavy snow fall with my Pentax K-r. Unfortunately I didn’t realise at the time that the auto exposure modes of cameras will assume that a scene will equate to 17% grey and are therefore fooled by the all white of a snowy view. For that reason the pictures I took that day were all under exposed by about 2 stops and had to be rescued in Lightroom afterwards.

Despite that, I still like this image and if nothing else I’ve learnt not to always trust the aperture priority mode on the camera. I don carry a set of white, black and grey card with me for manual exposure and white balance use.
